1.00Do we need to lift old vinyl to have new vinyl put on?
Q.We're having the kitchen altered and new vinyl flooring put down..we've had 4 companies round all saying different things about the installation in a nutshell the question is....if we do lift the old vinyl which is stuck down all over, do we need a latex screed and if so is it easier just to latex screed over the old vinyl??
A.If there is only 1 layer of vinyl down you can go over existing vinyl, filling in any voids. A new subfloor can go over the old and put new vinyl on that. The way I understand the question about screeding is if your going to do vinyl over vinyl (which can be done if 1 st layer is down tight.) Then you need the latex over top so the under neath pattern won t telescope thru and show.. GL
1.00What to use as underlay under vinyl flooring on a concrete floor?
Q.I am about to have some vinyl flooring fitted in my kitchen and would grateful for any suggestions as to what I can use for cushioning and to try and keep the floor as warm as possible under foot. I have had vinyl flooring before and it is still hard and cold when standing on the flooring. I have even tried cork tiles and this did not seem to make a huge difference. Would a laminate and wood flooring underlay be suitable or would this be a waste of time?
I should add that I am in the UK.
A.An idea, There is a product by DRIcore subfloor which is designed to be put over concrete floors in basements, playrooms etc, this may be something you would want to look into, it would serve all your needs. Lowes carries this by the way, here's a link to the DRIcore website

1.00What is the average price for vinyl flooring installation?
Q.I need to have vinyl flooring installed in an area that is approximately 300 square feet. What should I expect for a quote?
A.Rolled vinyl is pretty quick and easy to install. I wouldn't expect to pay more than $100 to $150, maybe less if they're charging by the hour (like a $20 an hour handyman).
1.00Real Estate Investment-Contractor suggested Vinyl Flooring in Kitchen instead of Carept. Ground Level Basement?
Q.Hi All,
The property manager suggested vinyl flooring in the kitchen of a 1 bedroom apartment instead of current old carpet. I understand it is easier to clean and might look better however will it not be less warm in the apartment as a result if I replace it with vinyl flooring instead fo a new carpet? Also, carpet is around $2/sq ft including everything. what is an average simple vinyl flooring price per sq ft? The structure is a little unique - the apartment in question is a ground level basement.
I heard if floor is not lifted carpet is better for the reaosn mentioned above (heating) but not sure. how can I tell if it is lifted or not?
(The unit will be rented out soon, it's a rental business)
THANK YOU,
Neil

1.00What is the best method to install new vinyl flooring?
Q.I'm remodeling my kitchen. The orginal vinyl flooring is really ugly, but not really that bad shape. I want to put new vinyl flooring. What is the best method. I don't see the option of removing the old flooring but instead, putting the new floor on top of the existing. Should I just lay down 1/4 inch luan or is there a better, more professional method?
A.If its only 1 layer down, most manufactures ok it it to go over the existing as long as its in decent shape like you say. Yes the use of a luan or birch luan is the best way to go. The new glue will take to the pores of the wood the best.Filling in the seams w/ a special cement based filler and if theres any imperfections in the wood. I ve always have used Ardex but there are other names out there.
Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
1.00How do I get laminate flooring to work when my steel door can barely "clear" vinyl flooring?
Q.I'm looking at putting laminate flooring in the kitchen but our steel door leading out to our garage can barely "clear" the current vinyl flooring when it opens, so I know it wouldn't be able to open with a taller laminate floor. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a new door or make any major renovations. Any suggestions?
A.Another option if you can't cut the door off is to put the laminate only up to the outside of the door reach and leave the vinyl as a circular entry type look. It's done with carpeting all the time by outside entry doors, usually so you can have a scatter rug on the vinyl. In your case, you don't have room for a scatter rug.
1.00What type of flooring is easiest in kitchen and less expensive that we can do ourselves?
Q.We have tile looking vinyl flooring right now. I love my floor but it has to go to add new cabinets, extra wall cabinets and a middle cabinet island. What have others did for their flooring that is easy and not too expensive. We have a good solid wood surface under (1) layer of vinyl flooring to work with. Thanks for any help and answers......
A.Dont go too cheap.....home depot or lowes has closeout tile (usually less than 1$ a sq.) really east to install and will last forever, and when you do a project like that yourself you will be proud!

Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl is one of the most popular flooring materials used in >, Washington area homes across, and the reasons are not hard to see. It's extremely affordable, and installation costs are low. Vinyl tiles can give you the look of ceramic tiles at a much lower price. They are long lasting, and easy to maintain. If you have no time for high maintenance wood or the budget for pricey granite, but want a floor that offers looks and durability with ease of cleaning, then a vinyl floor is right for your home.
Vinyl flooring consists of layers of plastics that are joined together. Vinyl flooring can be installed in the form of sheet vinyl, or vinyl flooring tiles. They cost lesser to install than your hard wood floors. Installation can range from self stick tiles that can be installed by removing the back layer and sticking the tile, to professional installation through the full spread method. The colors, textures and styles vary greatly, and modern vinyl flooring can be configured to offer a range of patterns. Adhesive vinyl tiles can be installed by people with some degree of DIY skills, but remember that variations in the sub floor can result in imperfections in your vinyl flooring.
Vinyl flooring can look as stylish as an expensive wood floor, if it is installed properly. An imperfect installation can lead to gaps in between the tiles in which dirt and grit can accumulate. Another important factor in vinyl flooring installation is the preparation of the sub floor. Any imperfection in the sub floor will be reflected in the vinyl flooring. Use recommended cleaners only to wash your floors. Don't leave water standing on the vinyl floor, and place mats near entrances and hallways to prevent sand and dirt from entering your house. Place floor protectors on furniture, and avoid moving heavy furniture directly over your vinyl flooring. Instead, place a plywood board on the floor, and move the furniture across it.
